Will DIY stores stay open during the second lockdown?

With non-essential shops forced to close throughout the rest of November, will DIY stores be open?

Are DIY stores still open?

You will be pleased to know that DIY stores will remain open during England's second lockdown as they are considered by the government as ‘essential retail’.

DIY superstores such as B&Q, Wickes, Toolstation and Homebase have all announced their plans to continue trading.

The hardware stores have now mapped out how they will keep employees and customers safe, as the virus continues to spread rapidly throughout England.

What are the safety measures in DIY shops?

B&Q

The hardware giant has asked customers to adhere to government guidelines, such as social distancing while shopping in store.

All customers will also be expected to wear a face mask, as will staff.

Customers are advised to use contactless payment where possible and shop in groups of no more than four from the same household.

Stores will now be open until 8pm everyday except Sundays, when they close at 4pm.

Recent changes to opening hours have allowed for more shoppers per day, in a bid to counteract the limited number of people allowed inside stores at any given time.

Additionally, click & collect orders and home delivery options will remain available online.

Wickes

Wickes confirmed on its website following the announcement by the government, that it will be open to support customers in “helping keep your homes warm, dry and safe this Winter.”

However, shopping in stores may take longer than usual as only 30 people will be permitted in-store.

Virtual appointments will be available to customers who do not wish to visit stores, although in store appointments will also be available.

With a likely increase in online purchases, Wickes has confirmed that delivery services can be placed up to seven days in advance, as well as new dates released everyday.

If you can’t wait to renovate your home and want your products sooner, you can buy them online via the click and collect service if available at your local store, and collect just four hours later.

The Hardware supplier has also insisted that customers wear face masks, socially distance, pay with contactless and bring another member of your household to assist with carrying heavy objects, to ensure staff do not come into physical contact with customers.
