Menu unveiled at Amaan’s Wakefield: A South Asian restaurant and takeaway with family at its heart

Amaans
A teenager who began learning the restaurant trade while still in school has just opened the doors of his new Wakefield restaurant this May.

Arif Ahmed is welcoming diners to the new family restaurant, with a focus of beautiful food, excellent customer service and a friend welcome.

The restaurant, named after Arif’s middle name which is a typical South Asian name meaning trustworthy, is synonymous with food from the region. And with the restaurant offering both takeaway and sit in dining options, it’s sure to be a popular choice.

He said: “My family has worked in and ran restaurants in the area for many years. My dad started teaching me at 14, and while I did well in school and got lots of GCSEs, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do. I’ve tried a few things, but none were the right fit. I wasn’t particularly academic, and tried being a barber and working in care.

“In the meantime, my dad has been gently teaching me all the skills over the years … I’ve gone from quiet teenager to confident, friendly front of house person, and when he told me he was opening a new branch in Wakefield and wanted me to manage it, I was awestruck, but delighted.”

Sneak peek at the menu

Are you feeling hungry yet? You will soon, with a look at the tasty menu at Amaans. There is, of course, all the staples – soft, doughy peshwari naans, pilau rice, and kormas, but expect something that little bit different besides.

The Tandoor special is packed with prawns, chicken, and sheesh kebab, topped with a delicious masala sauce. Or what about a Balti butter chicken – with meat so tender it falls from the fork. The Shalimar Karahi is a curry with a difference – you don’t get flavours like this everywhere.

On the side, enjoy tarka dahl, Bombay aloo or special rice with eggs, peas, capsicums and spices.

And for extra value explore the set meal choices – there’s definitely something there to keep everyone happy.
