Concerns have been raised over a planning application for a new takeaway in a Wakefield district village.

The application is for a change of use for 17A on High Street in Upton from a restaurant into a takeaway.

Residents told Wakefield Council’s planning website that the village did not need another takeaway.

"Another takeaway is not going to benefit the local community and hinder income of longstanding businesses in our area.”

Another comment said: "This is a small village with too many takeaways and pizza shops.

“And all these businesses bring noise and pollution with it. People, especially youngsters, are gathering in large numbers, making noise and sometimes anti-social behaviour.”

A third comment said: “There are already four fast food takeaways less than 100 metres away from this new one, so no more please.”

Thirteen people have written to the council to oppose the plan.

No decision has yet been made.
